VDI galore: Fedora 13, Fedora 14 (standard and KDE spin), Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 10.10, Kubuntu 10.10

Our publishing activity has not been shiny lately – that’s no longer the case.

It’s a pleasure to make several hard disk images available as standard HTTP downloads:

  1. Fedora 13
  2. Fedora 14
  3. Fedora 14 KDE spin
  4. Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10
  5. Kubuntu 10.10

Fedora 13 and Ubuntu 10.04 were previously available only through BitTorrent.

Go download them all in their relevant pages, and don’t forget to mirror them on peer to peer networks such as eMule or BitTorrent (it’s perfectly legal).

How do you change the language? The Ubuntu 10.10 VDI seems to come up in Italian by default.

    • I’m sorry for this glitch; I created all these images for some review in Italian and I had to write and I must have forgotten switching language back to English.

This was a bit of a pain to undo, and Google searches did not turn up a working solution, so I thought I would list what steps worked for me.
        1. Start Package manager (Gestore di pacchetti)
        2. Quick search locale
        3. Mark for re-installation the language language packs (in my case *en*) that I wanted (Reinstalla)
        4. Mark for completely removal the installed Italian language packages (Rimuovi completamente)
        5. Apply those system changes
        6. Reboot (Riavvia)
On next login Ubuntu helpfully asked if it was alright to rename the default folder setup.

u need to change the system language, location and maybe the keymap. u can do that all in the console google for that.

Have you noted any stability problems with the Fedora 14 spins? I seem to get some random lockups (unable to get a shell in an xterm.. unable to switch over to console.. cannot ssh in through a portward on the host). Log files don’t appear to be written during this time, so I cannot debug.

    Hi,

I downloaded Fedora 14 GNOME.vdi.bz2 and I’m running it on WindowsXP host machine using virtual box.

I built the kernel from sources myself for the above distribution using the configs and makefile present in Fedora 14 GNOME.vdi.bz2, However when I replaced the image with my new image in /boot folder, I get the following error during boot up.

“error 13 invalid or unsupported executable format”

Is there a special way to build kernels that are compatible with virtualbox?

It would be great if you can let me know how to create vdi file using kernel and root file system.

    Awaiting your response
